Bart de Boer, researcher from Groningen University has shown it in his book "The origins of vowel systems". At least the system of vowels of natural languages is selforganising. It would be nice to continue this exploration, in order to observe whether entire languages would be selforganisational (what else would they be, by the way ?). A Dutch quality news paper (in Dutch though) gives attention to this discovery (a few years after date) in its science annex.
Yet another field in which agent based simulations seem to visualize interesting phenomena. A pitty though that the researcher immediately feels the necessity to label selforganisation as an ambiguous word since the "New Age" movement would have embraced it. Leave apart that I am not aware of that, and so what? It would be good if researchers would make an attempt to understand why searchers in different disciplines are interested in valuable concepts. That does not devalorize these concepts, rather on the contrary.
Anyway, interesting book.
